“Elgin is Home” Video Series

There’s a story behind every street, every business, and every smiling face in our community. That’s why this spring we’re launching the Elgin is Home video series— highlighting the many gems in Downtown Elgin. The goal of this project is to show our community and surrounding areas the amazing restaurants, retail and activities that make Elgin HOME.

Community Art Project…

To celebrate our city, we’ve asked local artists to create original art using the phrase “Elgin is Home”. The featured artwork is part of an interactive display traveling around Elgin.

Join our community art project by telling us why you love Elgin. Your answers may be posted alongside the art.

Elgin has been my home for over 20 years. Not only do I live here, but I work here and go to church here too! I love the people of this city.

Mark L.

I have lived in Elgin for over 20 years. While I absolutely love the arts, culture, and diversity of Elgin, it is the people who make this community the true gem that it is. I love dining at Bea Unique, where Bea and Al make you feel like family. I love that John LaFleur devised a completely outrageously awesome arts fundraiser to benefit PADS of Elgin. I love that I work with a team of amazingly caring and compassionate friends at PADS of Elgin. Our community is amazing for so many reasons, but the people are the true stars of the show.

Jen K.

My maternal grandparents were one of the first families of color to settle here in Elgin in the 1950’s. I’m in the 3rd of 5 generations to live here. We love Elgin because of its diversity and family-oriented culture. I enjoy working in the town in which I live as well- it helps keep me connected to the community.

Tiffani S.

Elgin is a community of people who don’t always fit the mold, so anyone can find a place to belong here. So many of us who live here are deeply committed to making Elgin the best it can be *because* of the communities they’ve formed here. Every Elginite I meet is involved in multiple ways. In my experience, most people from other towns are apathetic about the wellbeing of their town. Here, people contribute so much of their time and resources for Elgin.
Perhaps the fringes are drawn here because Elgin itself is a little quirky compared to the surrounding suburbs. There are beautiful spaces to gather, and you don’t always need a car to get to them. The streets are full of art, from the buildings to the stickers on the light posts. The proximity of things encourages people to be outside, rather than sticking to the end destinations. And there is always *something* going on. This is an environment that encourages you to stop, look around, and maybe meet a neighbor. It’s an environment where communities can form.

I love the peaceful sound of the water that flows in the Fox River, as well as the lively sounds of the wildlife that call the Fox River “Home.” I love hearing the train whistle in the distance, and the connection the Fox River Trail provided us to all the other home communities along the trail. The possibilities seem endless in Elgin❣

Sue

I love Elgin because of the amount of nature that’s here as well as the people and community. Elgin is my home.

Alestina B.

I love Elgin because of all the wonderful events. There’s something to do, a lot of it no cost, nearly every day of the week.

Carroll B.

The love I have for Elgin is the diverse culture, the food, the people, the community! Businesses are expanding here and can’t wait to see many more opportunities for people here in Elgin!

Pamela
