The Elgin Police Department is dedicated to working in partnership with the community to promote safety and enhance the quality of life by serving with professionalism, encouraging open communication and embracing diversity.
Today Elgin’s population is more than 110,000 strong. For many years, the Elgin Police Department has been practicing a community policing philosophy that has had a tremendous impact on crime in our community. Currently our crime rate is at a near-40 year low. By using an aggressive and practical policing approach that partners the department with community residents, businesses and civic organizations, we have all been able to improve our neighborhoods and city.
EPD Transparency
In 2021 a new EPD webpage was launched with the intent to fulfill the crucial need for police transparency within the community. Visitors will see the total dispatched calls for service with an ongoing comparison between call volume, response to resistance incidents and employee complaints. Data is updated on 15 minute intervals unless otherwise noted. Within the interactive site visitors can find officers for their neighborhoods or schools, crime information for dispatched events, and specifics for burglaries, traffic, incidents involving gunfire and homicides, from 1971-forward. A sex offender search is also available. Visit www.cityofelgin.org/epdtransparency.
