SYEA 2020 Mural
Created by Side Street Studio Art’s 2020 Summer Youth Employee in the Arts Team (Tori Nagode, Claire Noland, Kelly Hernandez, Paola Robledo, and Morgan Donahue), the SYEA 2020 Mural “is meant to represent unity of various sub-communities within the larger community of Elgin (and the world). In order to portray this message, the flowers around the heart-shaped earth are inspired by flower language. Roses are the US national flower, Dahlias are the Mexican national flower, Lapageria Rosa are the Chilean national flower, Violets represent the LGBT+ community, and Protea represent diversity. Each of the four Summer Youth Employee in the Arts interns designed different versions of this mural, which we synthesized into this message of togetherness and community.” Installed in the summer of 2020. Located on the side of 15 Zielger Court and owned by Side Street Studio Arts.
