The Makers of Downtown Elgin
Elgin began its rich history in 1835 manufacturing butter and dairy products. In the 1860’s, The Elgin Watch Factory laid its roots in Elgin and became the leading manufacturer of fine watches in the United State, employing Elginites for three generations. Though the watch factory has since closed, this communities’ love and drive for creating and manufacturing quality products is still going strong. The Made in Elgin seal is a symbol of pride and quality. It has been designed for the Makers of Elgin to use as a marketing tool as well as a way for consumers to shop and support locally made products.
