SSSA is an artistic, cultural, and social beacon for Elgin and beyond. The extent of programing and performances implemented by Side Street is immense. SSSA brings art to the community through visual art exhibitions, musical performances, live performing arts events, arts education outreach programming, online programming, discounted and donated space for multiple fundraising events for area organizations and arts activities, professional development activities, the MADE arts retail collective and more.

Battle of the Bands – Battle of the Bands is a celebration of local and regional musicians and artists. Bands from all over the area share space, creativity, and audiences during this summerlong, un-juried bracket-style competition.
Going Dutch Festival – The Going Dutch Festival is a celebration of the female voice in dance, music, theater, and the visual arts.
Something Wicked – Something Wicked features artists working in a variety of media, whose subject matter is meant to instill a combined sense of wonder, awe, and perhaps a little dread.
Small Wonders – Small Wonders offers a variety of visual and performance art activities for children. Most are free and online programming is available.
ELGIN FRINGE FESTIVAL
Fringe Festivals focus on performing arts but also include film, visual art, music, and other types of art forms. Performances take place around town in cafes, theaters, storefronts, and a variety of other locations. The first Fringe Festival started in 1947 in Edinburgh, Scotland, as an alternative festival that played concurrently with the Edinburgh International Festival. There are more than 20 fringe festivals throughout the United States with more in Canada and Europe.
The annual Elgin Fringe Festival is a two-week festival celebrating the performative and visual arts in walkable venues throughout Downtown Elgin. Follow the EFF on Facebook for updates on this annual event typically held in September. Keep an eye out for other “Mini-Fringe” events throughout the year.
